Open four days a week (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:00-11:30 AM) it is not unusual to see clients lining up outside, well before the doors open.
The Salvation Army provides food boxes containing non-perishable food items, bread and meat to an average of 150 people each week.
Staff and volunteers re-stock every Tuesday, with 9,000-11,000 pounds of supplies delivered weekly by the Brazos Valley Food Bank.
Baby items including diapers, pull-ups and formula are always in demand as are hygiene products such as razors, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
Lt. Joe Contreras, Salvation Army Officer in Bryan College Station, is ready to step-up to the challenge of the increased demand from the community. He said, “The Salvation Army will continue to serve as many people as possible in Brazos County. In addition to the Food Pantry we are also open each afternoon, from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 PM as a Cooling Station, providing water and a snack to people seeking shelter from the sweltering heat.”
The Salvation Army, located at 2506 Cavitt Ave, is accepting donations of canned goods, baby items and hygiene products. For more information about the services at The Salvation Army please call (979) 361-0618.
