The Brazos Animal Shelter is hosting a Pre-Valentine's Day celebration, "Love Furrever" at the shelter. The event will be on Saturday Feb. 11th from 11am-3pm at 5359 Leonard Road in Bryan. The Shelter will be featuting a "Speed Dating" service for people to find their perfect match in a pet. They'll also have activities such as paw print Valentine craft, agility course to try out, a photo booth and face painting and valentine decorating for children.

The shelter will also have adoption specials Feb. 11th-14th.

Project Graduation is a subtance free, all night celebration held every year on Graduation night.

Events planned for this year's Project Graduation include: Boy's Beauty Pagent, Texas Hold'em Tournament, karakoe, rock climbing, bing and more. Those students who stay the whole night are eligible for prizes.

Allen Academy presents the musical adaptation of E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00 PM at the Wakefield Activity Center at Allen Academy.  This production features 26 students in grades 1-8 and is directed by Andrea Robison with musical direction by Joy McCoy. 

 Charlotte’s Web is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by the Sherman Brothers, based on the characters created by E.B. White in 1952.  Prepare yourself for an evening of merriment and endearment as all of the barnyard animals rally around Wilbur as Charlotte works her magic to save her friend’s life.

Students have been working very hard to put together this exciting musical full of singing, dancing and humorous references to the original classic.  The sets, costumes, and technical elements were created by Upper School students in Allen Academy’s technical theatre class. 

Tickets are available at the door and cost $8 for adults and $5 for students.  Again, performances will be held on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 PM and Saturday, March 3rd at 2:00 PM at the Wakefield Activity Center at Allen Academy. Allen Academy is located at 3201 Boonville in Bryan.

The Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History celebrates science education by hosting its fourth annual Educator’s Showcase, February 10 - 24, 2012. This short-term exhibit will provide information from organizations that offer free and low cost materials and resources for teachers, with an emphasis on environmental, science, and history education, with no cost to educators in and around the Brazos County. This year’s showcase is proud to be sponsored once again by the Barbara Bush Literacy Corps.

“The Museum’s commitment to scientific and cultural literacy remains a key aspect of our mission and we strive to do all we can to assist local educators at every level with their efforts to enhance classroom learning in these areas. We hope this annual event will provide a forum for networking and for the exchange of valuable information about the exciting and meaningful supplemental materials, curricula, and other resources available in our area for use in the classroom,” explains Maria Lazo, the Museum’s Associate Director and Education Coordinator.

In conjunction with the Showcase, the Museum is offering a Climate Change, Wildlife and Wildlands: Toolkit for Formal and Informal Educators Teacher’s Workshop, a curriculum developed by seven federal agencies: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Forest Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Bureau of Land Management. The workshop provides classroom teachers and informal educators with the tools to educate middle school students about the science of climate change, its impacts on U.S. wildlife and wildlands, and what kids can do to help address the issue. Activities for students are based upon 11 eco-region case studies, and incorporate science, social science, math, language arts, and art. Developed by master teachers in the Albert Einstein Fellowship Program, the activities are fun, educational, and easily adapted to a variety of settings and ability levels. The daylong conference at the College Station Hilton targets health care professionals with the theme "Quality Cancer Health Care Across the Lifespan: What Health Professionals and Caregivers Need to Know."

Also on the agenda beginning at 7:45 a.m. are sessions on ethics pertaining to public health exchanges, patient care and families in difficult situations; obesity and impacts on self-esteem and mental health; and public health policy and the aging.

Afternoon sessions will include sessions on workplace wellness, ethical means of prevention, healthy eating, spiritual wellness and lasting health behavior changes.

Continuing education units are available for health care workers and exhibits of related materials will be open throughout the day.

Registration for the event is $75 for individuals seeking CEU’s, $30 for non-CEU’S prior to April 10 and includes the luncheon. After April 10, registration is $90 for individuals seeking CEU’S and $45 for non-CEU and does not include lunch.
